The Rise of automated AI agencies
A new kind of agency is showing up in local business owners’ inboxes. We’ve seen it firsthand: our team has received calls from automated agencies whose pitches fell apart under a few basic questions, and we’ve worked with businesses whose sites, run on automated platforms with no one keeping watch, ended up hacked.
Automated AI agencies promise a website in 48 hours, a month of social posts at the click of a button, and marketing that runs itself for a low monthly fee. These agencies use AI tools to generate generic designs, copy, and campaigns with little human involvement using copy-and-paste operations.
For some businesses, that speed and price are appealing. But a website and a brand requires the maintenance that only a human-led team can offer: it needs to be secure, accessible, and built around how your business actually works. We bring AI into our workflows where it genuinely saves time, while keeping a focus on what actually grows our clients’ business.
Where AI agencies fall short
AI has gone mainstream fast. McKinsey’s State of AI 2026 survey of nearly 2,000 respondents found that nearly nine in ten organizations use AI in at least one business function. But adoption and results are two different things. Only 37% of those organizations reported any measurable impact on profit, and just about 6% qualified as “high performers” seeing significant value.
What set those high performers apart wasn’t the tools. They redesigned how their work gets done around AI, with people deciding where it helps and where it doesn’t. That’s the opposite of the push-a-button model automated agencies are selling.
Generic Results
AI tools work from patterns, so the output often looks like everyone else’s and lacks the qualities that make a design stand out. Customers choose brands for what makes them different, and a templated site hides that.
No one watching the details
Security updates, expired plugins, broken forms, and sites that lack adequate security hardening are easy to miss when no person is responsible for your site. These small problems cost you valuable leads, money, and time in the long run.
Accessibility Gaps
Automated builds rarely check for ADA compliance, like color contrast, alt text, and readable type. That shuts out customers and can expose your business to legal risk.
Nobody to Call
When something breaks, a chatbot or ticket queue is not the same as a designer or marketing agency that knows your business and can fix it the same day. Relying on automation opens a pretty large vulnerability: when something goes wrong, there’s no one to catch it, and suddenly what looked like savings upfront becomes an expensive mistake that costs you money, time, and stress in the long run.
Case Study
After switching to a low-cost automated website provider, a local client’s site was hacked and began redirecting visitors to a gambling site, cutting off their leads. The provider blamed the domain, but we verified the domain was secure. The problem was the hacked site, which lived on an AI-automated platform, and no one was taking ownership of it. Within a few days, we visited the client in person, redirected their domain to their other website, and set up their business email. Customers could reach them again, leads resumed, and email was working within days.
Pick the Right Solution for your marketing Needs
AI can be a genuinely useful tool, but the data is clear that it works best with people steering it. Your website is often the first impression a customer has of your business. It should look like you, work for everyone, stay secure, and have a team with real marketing experience behind it. If you’re not sure who’s keeping an eye on your website right now, shoot us a message or go to our services page to learn more about how we help. We’re happy to take a look.
